- November 11, 2014 and April 1, 2, 20, 2015 : Second Reading of the Bill C-42 (Common Sense Firearms Licensing Act)
- April 20, 2015 : Bill is sent to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security (SECU) by a vote of 150 to 121. The Conservatives voted in favor of the bill, but other political parties were unanimously against it.
- April 23, 2015 : Minister Blaney already appeared as a witness in front of the committee
- April 28, 2015 : The Coalition for Gun Control appears as a witness in front of the Committee
- April 30, 2015 : Last day of witnesses’ hearings
- May 5, 2015 : Last Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security meeting
- May 6, 2015 : First Sitting (Committee Reporting the Bill with an Amendment)

Initiated in October 2014 by Minister of Public Safety, Steven Blaney, Bill C-42 (“Common Sense Firearms Bill”) intends to :
→ Relax controls on handguns and assault weapons ;
→ Relax controls on gun owner licenses ;
→ Allow politicians instead of qualified members of the RCMP to determine which weapons are prohibited or restricted, increasing gun industry and the gun lobby influence over public safety decisions.
